Apolipoprotein A-I/APOA1 mainly exists in high density lipoprotein (HDL) particles, which can prevent excessive accumulation of cholesterol in macrophages, form foam cells, deposit on the arterial wall, and cause atherosclerosis. The main function of APOA1 is to activate lecithin cholesterol acyltransferase (LCAT) in HDL complex, catalyze cholesterol esterification, and then dissolve more cholesterol-HDL complex, increase the cholesterol transport capacity of HDL particles and the ability of liver to metabolize cholesterol. Therefore, APOA1 is an important marker to evaluate the ability of blood cholesterol clearance.
