背景介绍
  • NRGN, or neurogranin, is a brain-specific protein found predominantly in telencephalic neurons. It is known to be a postsynaptic protein kinase substrate that binds calmodulin in the absence of calcium. NRGN is also under the control of thyroid hormone in specific neuronal subsets, playing a role in the mental states associated with hypothyroidism during development and in adult subjects. The gene is located on chromosome 11q24 and contains four exons and three introns, with exons 1 and 2 encoding the protein. NRGN is considered a direct target for thyroid hormone in the human brain, and its expression is crucial for understanding the impact of thyroid function on cognitive and mental health.
