Histone H3 (acetyl K18) refers to the specific acetylation of lysine 18 on the histone protein H3. Acetylation of histone proteins, including H3K18, is a type of epigenetic mark that can influence gene expression without altering the DNA sequence itself. This modification neutralizes the positive charge of lysine residues, which can weaken the interaction between histones and DNA, leading to changes in chromatin structure and accessibility of DNA to the transcription machinery. Histone H3 acetylation at K18 is associated with transcriptional activation. It is one of the modifications that can lead to a more open chromatin state, facilitating access to DNA for transcription factors and the RNA polymerase complex.

ICC analysis of HeLa cells treated with TSA (500ng/ml,4h) (top panel) and HeLa cells untreated with TSA (500ng/ml,4h) (below panel). Anti-Histone H3 (acetyl K18) antibody was used at 1/500 dilution (Green) and incubated overnight at 4°C. Goat polyclonal Antibody to Rabbit IgG - H&L (Alexa Fluor® 488) was used as secondary antibody at 1/1000 dilution. The cells were fixed with 4% PFA and permeabilized with 0.1% PBS-Triton X-100. Nuclei were counterstained with DAPI (Blue). Counterstain with tubulin (Red).
