Transmembrane protein 27 (TMEM27/collectrin), a glycoprotein and homolog of angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2), is a regulator of renal amino acid uptake in the proximal tubule and may have a protective role in hypertension.Mature human Collectrin consists of a 127 amino acid (aa) extracellular domain (ECD), a 21 aa transmembrane segment, and a 60 aa cytoplasmic domain. Collectrin is highly expressed in the proximal convoluted tubules of the renal collector and inhibits the proliferation of tubular epithelial cells.Collectrin is also expressed in pancreatic islet beta cells and enhances glucose‑stimulated insulin secretion as well as insulin resistance.
