IgE(Immunoglobulin E)is a type of antibody that plays a crucial role in the immune system. It is present in relatively low concentrations in the blood compared to other immunoglobulins like IgG or IgA. IgE is primarily known for its involvement in allergic reactions. When the body encounters an allergen, such as pollen, dust mites, or certain foods, IgE antibodies bind to the allergen and trigger the release of histamine and other inflammatory substances from mast cells and basophils. This leads to the symptoms commonly associated with allergies, including itching, swelling, and sneezing. Additionally, IgE is important in defending against parasitic infections by activating immune responses that help eliminate parasites from the body.
