Ly-6C (lymphocyte antigen 6 complex, locus C) is a 14-17 kDa GPI-linked cell surface antigen belonging to the Ly-6 family of glycosyl phosphatidylinositol-anchored proteins. It is primarily expressed on monocytes/macrophages, endothelial cells, neutrophils, and certain subsets of T cells, including memory CD8+ T cells. Ly-6C is regulated by interferon gamma and plays a role in the development and maturation of lymphocytes. In mice, Ly-6C+ monocytes are a major subset of circulating monocytes known for their phagocytic activity and inflammatory functions, while Ly-6C- monocytes exhibit patrolling behavior along blood vessels. This marker is also used to differentiate between various immune cell populations in research settings.
Flow cytometric analysis of Mouse Ly-6C expression on C57BL/6 mouse bone marrow. C57BL/6 mouse bone marrow was stained with Brilliant Violet 510™ Rat Anti-Mouse CD11b Antibody and either FITC Rat IgG2c, κ Isotype Control (Left panel) or SDT FITC Rat Anti-Mouse Ly-6C Antibody (Right panel) at 1.25μl/test. Flow cytometry and data analysis were performed using BD FACSymphony™ A1 and FlowJo™ software.
