VEGFR-2 protein, also known as Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor Receptor 2 (VEGFR2 or KDR), is a crucial type III receptor tyrosine kinase that plays a pivotal role in regulating angiogenesis, vascular development, permeability, and embryonic hematopoiesis. Specifically, VEGFR-2 is a cell surface receptor for VEGFA, VEGFC, and VEGFD. It actively promotes endothelial cell proliferation, survival, migration, differentiation, and actin cytoskeleton reorganization. Furthermore, VEGFR-2 mediates VEGF-induced endothelial proliferation, survival, migration, tubular morphogenesis, and sprouting, which are essential processes in vasculogenesis and angiogenesis.
